Summary
The Development Coordinator position provides an advanced level of direct support for the Associate Dean, two or more frontline, leadership and major gift fundraisers, and the Office of Biomedical Advancement’s engagement efforts. Work with senior administrators across the Division of Biology and Medicine (BioMed), their support team, and key volunteers. This position will handle managing major gifts pipelines, gift/pledge recording accuracy, draft high-level correspondence and briefings, conduct research, provide technical and logistical support to the Associate Dean. This position supports the overall work of the Biomedical Advancement team, which oversees The Warren Alpert Medical School and Program in Biology’s 14 clinical departments, six basic science departments, and 20 research centers, institutes and programs, academic priority areas and raises commitments totaling $30 million+ annually in support of Brown University and the University’s BrownTogether comprehensive campaign.

The Development Coordinator provides comprehensive fundraising and high-level administrative support for the development efforts administered on behalf of fundraising initiatives areas overseen by the Associate Dean for Biomedical Advancement.  The Development Coordinator will support all aspects of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for BioMed’s initiatives including: monitoring the major gifts pipeline; providing updated information about programs and funding opportunities to University fundraisers for proposal and solicitation development; tracking and reporting on prospect-related interactions and events involving relevant program directors; facilitating regular gift reports and analyses pertaining to fundraising; and maintaining a repository of proposals to advance BioMed’s Campaign fundraising priorities. This position will also work cooperatively with other development associates and fundraising staff within Brown’s Division of Advancement.

In collaboration with the Associate Dean and Director of Biomedical Development, the Development Coordinator helps manage volunteer committees, particularly President’s Advisory Council and Brown Medical Alumni Association Board of Directors. This position works with donor stewardship and prospect managers and helps to ensure appropriate stewardship activities on behalf of the program directors.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience (development, sales, customer relations and administrative) required
  • Experience in a higher-education, fundraising, or non-profit setting highly desirable and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Competencies

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, given the nature of the satellite office.
  • Strong project/time management skills preferred.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have an ability to handle and complete multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability with computer software programs including but not limited to word processing and spreadsheets. Use of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word and Google mail is required. Knowledge of BSR Advance and Blackbaud preferred.
  • Must have a degree of computer proficiency and Information Management Skills to carry out the major responsibilities of this position.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment and campus community.
  • This position is located in Providence, RI and may require availability to attend event weekends.
