Position Summary
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Detroit Mercy College of Engineering and Science invites applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Electrical and Computer Engineering starting August 2023. An earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering or/and Computer Engineering is required. Applications from all Electrical/Computer Engineering sub-disciplines will be reviewed with a preference in Electric Vehicles, Power Electronics, or Embedded Systems. The successful candidate would be one that is an effective and enthusiastic teacher-scholar, developing innovative hands-on teaching strategies and curriculum for undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to our efforts to provide support and opportunities for historically minoritized students majoring in science and engineering disciplines. Faculty are expected to be flexible with courses taught as they are assigned based on the needs of the department. In addition, faculty are expected to develop a research program involving the supervision of undergraduate, masters and doctoral students, write grants, and publish in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
The department offers two ABET accredited undergraduate Electrical Engineering programs: a traditional Electrical Engineering program, and a Robotics and Mechatronic Systems Program with a concentration in Electrical Engineering. Department degrees are offered at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral level. The small classes and close collegial relationships make teaching at Detroit Mercy exciting and rewarding. The College’s faculty forms a vibrant community of teaching scholars with a strong focus on professional and academic mentorship of students. Interdisciplinary collaboration is encouraged and supported through dedicated facilities such as the Department’s Advanced Mobility Robotics Laboratory and the Center for Automotive Systems Engineering Education.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Faculty are expected to be flexible with courses taught as they are assigned based on the needs of the department. - Ph.D. or equivalent in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, completed in advance of hiring start date
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
- Record of scholarly publications and research
- Willingness to support the educational needs of the department and provide service to the department, college, university, community and profession
Preferred Qualifications
- Research and teaching experience in the areas of Electrical Vehicles, Power Electronics, or Embedded Systems
- Experience with hands-on design projects and laboratory work
- Experience teaching courses in the college setting or equivalent
