University of Alabama at Birmingham — Associate Dean for Graduate and Continuing Education

The UAB College of Arts and Sciences is searching for an experienced, collaborative, and inclusive leader to serve as the Associate Dean for Graduate and Continuing Education. The selected candidate will have a promotion and tenure home in the College of Arts and Sciences and have the research/scholarship and teaching record to be hired at the rank of Full Professor with tenure.

This position is a 9-month, full-time, tenured appointment. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support academic departments in developing viable graduate degrees and programs including interdisciplinary programs, online programs, certificates and continuing education programs designed for adult learners
  • Collaborate with graduate program directors in developing expectations and program procedures related to disciplinary ethics, annual evaluation, and students’ career and professional development
  • Support graduate programs and faculty in developing extramural proposals for graduate training grants and student fellowships
  • Serve as a liaison to the Graduate School
  • Support graduate student recruitment and retention efforts
  • Support graduate programs in developing sound assessment practices
  • Support departments in the onboarding and professional development and annual evaluation of graduate program directors
  • Reflect the College’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging values in all aspects of their work

Important career experiences:

  • Experience creating and/or supporting successful interdisciplinary programs
  • Success at obtaining external funding in support of graduate education
  • Experience recruiting, developing, and graduating a diverse graduate student population

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience building, leading, and sustaining effective graduate programs 
  • A terminal degree in a College of Arts and Sciences discipline
