Job Summary/Purpose:
The Instructional Dean furthers the mission, vision, and values of the College through leadership and administrative oversight to faculty and staff in a range of academic departments (Transfer, Career & Technical Education, and non-credit) and instructional support areas. This position provides leadership and management of new program development, academic program review, curriculum development, personnel staffing, and overall course and fiscal administration activities. The dean is responsible to promote student-centered learning and collaboration and assists in the development and implementation of college and academic policies and procedures.

Terms of Employment:
• This is a 12-month exempt position at pay level 32 in the Administrative salary schedule.
• In an effort to be as transparent as possible, please note that the starting wage/salary ranges listed in our position postings are based on a thorough analysis of COCC’s pay equity, current budget, and specific employee group contracts. Thus, these ranges are fixed as noted in the posting and non-negotiable. The wage/salary schedules on the College website are used for internal purposes, and should not be interpreted as a means of negotiating starting pay during the recruitment process.
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district.
• Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire.
• COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.

Essential Functions:
Leadership
1. Ensure that the work within all instructional areas is aligned with the college’s mission and priorities;
2. Supervise, develop, and mentor faculty and staff on their personal and professional development;
3. Communicate college priorities and initiatives to faculty and staff and serve as a conduit for faculty and staff perspectives
4. Serve as a leader and member of internal committees and councils; represent the College on local, regional, state, and national committees and councils;
5. Ensure compliance with regional accreditation policies and standards as well as independent accrediting bodies for CTE programs;
6. Promote and foster collegiality between instruction, student services, and administrative services at the college; initiate and support creativity, change, and innovative instructional practices;
7. Develop and maintain community partnerships related to academic programming and disciplines.
Administration/Management
1. Oversee academic course scheduling processes;
2. Develop, manage, and monitor multiple budgets;
3. Perform personnel functions related to faculty and staff (hiring, evaluation, assignment, supervision, discipline, etc.);
4. Engage in faculty promotion, tenure, and professional development processes;
5. Develop and manage grants and special projects;
6. Assist in the development of and ensure compliance to collective bargaining agreements.
Teaching, Learning, and Student Success
1. Facilitate the integration of quality instruction and service to students; lead the development and implementation of student success practices within instruction;
2. Foster creativity and innovation and promote opportunities for faculty to continuously improve their teaching skills and learn new techniques or delivery methods.
3. Engage in work with faculty regarding development, revision, and assessment of course and program learning outcomes;
4. Engage in leadership role related to Academic Program Review;
5. Conduct classroom observations of faculty;
6. Have knowledge of current research and promising practices related to teaching, learning and student success;
7. Work with department chairs to address student concerns related to instruction.
Cultural Respect
1. Model and support COCC’s Principles of Community by modeling and ensuring equity practices, ensuring diversity and cultural competency in all position responsibilities;
2. Evaluate and maintain ADA compliance and appropriate accessibility to persons with disabilities to provide for the success of students and staff.
Other Job Functions
1. Cooperate with other College personnel to assist students with career planning, job placement, new student advising, orientation, and follow-up studies.
2. Provide academic program information to and attend monthly Board of Director meetings.
3. Act as a resource person for students.

14. Experience delivering learning and other services online.
Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:
Working hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Additional hours or schedule changes may be required based on work requirements including attending monthly evening board meetings. Work is performed in an office setting, mostly sitting with frequent computer use. Individual is required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree in a discipline related to the mission and programs of the college.
2. Two (2) years college teaching experience as a full-time faculty member or closely related equivalent.
3. Two (2) years administrative experience in an academic setting.
4. Two (2) years of successful leadership experience within a complex organization, including supervision of staff.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• One year (1) administrative experience and/or supervision of both Transfer and Career and Technical Education programs in an accredited community college.
