The Global Brown Center for International Students (GBC) emerged as a result of recommendations made to the Provost by the International Student Advisory Board in 2017. The GBC was established with two interconnected goals: to create a space for of belonging for internationally identified communities on campus and to engage students, faculty, staff, and community members in critical thinking and learning on international / global issues in order cultivate a more inclusive environment and catalyze globally minded positive change at Brown University and beyond. Utilizing frameworks of international identity as it intersects with other lived experiences (such as race, class, gender, ability, military status, religious affiliation, etc) and intercultural practices, the Center’s programs, initiatives, events, and workshops seek to cultivate student success, critically engage with and counter US-centricity, and build robust community partnerships.
