Job Description:
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is an integral part of the health care team at Health Services that serves the diverse student population at Brown. Responsibilities include providing primary medical care and health education to undergraduate, graduate and medical students. Some Brown employees are also seen at Health Services for triage of on the job injuries.
This is a per diem position 1 – 2 days per week. Evening and weekend shifts may also be available.
Job Qualifications
For NP candidates:
● Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required
● Current Registered Nurse (RN) license and Certified Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges (CNP) license in Rhode Island required
● Current certification as Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, or equivalent certifying body, required
● Primary care clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner strongly preferred
For PA candidates:
● Current Rhode Island Physician Assistant License required
● Certification by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants required
● Primary care clinical experience as a Physician Assistant strongly preferred
For both NP’s and PA’s:
● DEA license is required
● BLS CPR certification required
● Experience providing culturally competent care to a diverse population required; experience working with diverse student populations strongly preferred
● Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in and support a diverse and inclusive environment
● Patient education and social skills necessary for working with young adult population preferred
● Ability to work as part of a collaborative team in group practice
● Commitment to Quality Improvement principles
● Experience with a clinical practice using an electronic medical record
● Applicants from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply
● Second language fluency is highly desirable
● Specialized focus or training in sports medicine and/or kinesiology preferred
