Job Description:

Brown University applied for and received an IDeA Program Award for Clinical and Translational Research (IDeA-CTR), Advance-CTR, from the NIGMS on July 1, 2016 (U54GM115677). Advance-CTR, has multiple objectives, including: (1) Provide leadership and a primary point of contact for clinical and translational research throughout Rhode Island; (2) Develop quality education and training programs that will educate the next generation of clinical and translational researchers; (3) Provide researchers and research teams with enhanced and integrated core research infrastructure to shape innovative translational research ideas, tools and technologies, and conduct clinical trials; (4) Nurture collaboration among multi- and inter-disciplinary researchers and teams from multiple institutions to bring research from bench-to-bedside and beside-to-community; and (5) conduct clinical research to improve the health of both the Rhode Island and global communities.

Brown University is invested in continuing support for the renewal of the IDeA-CTR grant and anticipates leading a future effort for a CTSA or partnering with another academic institution on a CTSA submission. The Administrative Director will be responsible for these resubmission activities. The Administrative Director will oversee the administrative, financial, and human resources activities of Advance-CTR. This position is responsible for serving as liaison and primary IDeA-CTR representative to University, hospital, government, and industry collaborators including: Brown University, University of Rhode Island, other academic research institutions, Lifespan hospitals, Care New England hospitals, the Providence Veterans Administration Hospital, the Rhode Island Department of Health, and other government, commercial and community organizations

The Administrative Director will work with faculty, staff, and senior level executives at Brown University and Advance-CTR partnering institutions to identify and creatively develop opportunities for Advance-CTR involvement. The Administrative Director will also be responsible for outreach to researchers and research groups, and the development of long-term relationships that will sustain clinical and translational research initiatives across multiple institutions, in addition to Brown University. Additionally, the Administrative Director is responsible for the identification and development of all other Advance-CTR related activities, including, but not limited to:

  1. Overseeing and administering the creation of supporting materials for CTSA/IDeA-CTR grant applications with the National Institutes of Health
  2. Organizing CTSA/IDeA-CTR related grant planning meetings, organizational meetings and conferences
  3. Actively identifying, developing, and implementing new resources and initiatives in clinical and translational research that are accessible to Brown University, Advance-CTR partnering institutions, and community members;
  4. Directly reviewing, approving, and/or overseeing the preparation and approval of, all public and private materials for the Advance-CTR, including content for the website and all other communication materials;
  5. Creatively identifying and implementing future functions and initiatives of the Advance-CTR
  6. Coordinating with related projects and initiatives

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 7/31/2027, which may be extended based upon availability of funding.


Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in health-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5-7 years of related professional experience
  • Significant experience in grant writing, educational development, and budget management
  • Specific experience with IDeA grant or similar scope of award processes
