Alfred University — Chief Human Resources Officer

Alfred University seeks a strategic and innovative leader to serve as its Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). Alfred University is a small, successful, private, comprehensive doctoral degree-granting university. The University enrolls approximately 1,600 undergraduate students and 240 graduate students at the Alfred campus, with an additional 475 graduate students enrolled in the New York City metro area programs. Located in Alfred, New York, a village in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains about an hour west of Corning, an hour and a half south of Rochester and two hours from Buffalo. 

This position has recently been elevated from director level and will serve as a member of Alfred University’s Executive Council and will report to the President. The CHRO will provide strategic leadership and direction to all facets of human resources programs at Alfred University. This individual will partner with senior university leaders to recruit and retain exceptional faculty and staff (approximately 585) while building an effective and diverse workplace culture to advance the student experience. The CHRO will be a strong advocate for employees and contribute to creating a supportive culture for all employees. The successful candidate will advance employee development opportunities, benefit options, and employee recognition across campus. The CHRO is responsible for effectively managing all human resources processes and operations, including benefits administration, budget and planning, labor and employee relations, compensation, wage and salary programs, performance management, human resources information systems and all human resources related compliance mandates. The CHRO role requires strong strategic leadership and change management skills and a willingness to collaborate with other campus leaders in order to implement and operationalize current best practices in human resources across the University.
