The Hegi Family Career Development Center equips students and alumni to cultivate meaningful lives through career development, continuous learning, and professional growth. We provide relevant experiential learning opportunities for students to gain tangible skills that position them for professional success. Through these experiences, we empower students and alumni to find their passion and purpose to navigate careers for a lifetime.

About the Position:
This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Marketing Specialist will create multichannel communications plans and develop a unified approach to Hegi Family CDC correspondence to diverse campus communities and stakeholders. This professional will create compelling brand content, streamline marketing requests, be responsible for writing and editing online marketing content, and compile career related data to accurately tell our story and collaborate with the Employer Relations and Career Development Teams, as well as campus partners, to promote all career focused programming in the Hegi Family CDC.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, implements, and tracks marketing programs such as email, social media, or digital campaigns, and events.
  • Collaborates with other internal teams (e.g. student affairs and campus partners) to develop and monitor strategic marketing initiatives.
  • Analyzes and reports on the performance and efficiency of campaigns.
  • Conducts research and analyzes trends to identify new marketing opportunities.
  • Develops and creates marketing materials, such as event and programming collateral, and ensure SMU brand guidelines are met,using proper voice and tone to represent the department.
  • Writes, proofreads, and edits creative and technical content across different mediums, using proper voice and tone to represent the department.
  • Works with Hegi Team members, campus, and academic partners to execute marketing programs. Will perform other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work for special events is required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. A degree in Marketing or a related field is preferred.
  • Three to five years work experience in marketing is required, preferably marketing in a higher education or other relevant setting.
  • Experience with database management is required.
  • Experience in assessment of student learning, employer engagement, and job placement outcomes is strongly preferred
  • Experience in creating and presenting educational workshops is preferred.
  • Experience working with employers and community partners is also preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills, including the ability clearly and effectively present to various sized groups.
  • Must be able to network well, working with employer representatives, alumni, parents, students, and staff.
  • Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning, project and time management skills. Must be focused on deadlines and attentive to details.
  • Working knowledge of social media, effective campus communications, and comfortability with technology is required.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with others.
  • Candidate must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and comfortable delivering communication via a variety of technology tools and social media.
