Position Description

Purpose:

Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving and assisted by the Annual Giving Coordinator, this position manages several broad-audience and student-focused aspects of Seattle University's multi-channel Annual Giving program, including the annual online giving day, university crowdfunding and the student Engagement Center. As Annual Giving is part of the Office of Alumni Engagement, this role also serves on the broader Alumni Engagement team.

The primary goals of this position include building a culture of philanthropy among students, recent alumni, and faculty and staff, and increasing the number and diversity of alumni supporting the university by connecting alumni to a diverse array of inspiring university causes using modern software that encourages peer-to-peer outreach and reduces barriers to giving.

Essential Job Functions:

Giving Day (Seattle U Gives) and Crowdfunding 65%

• Collaborate with the Director of Annual Giving to develop overall strategy for Seattle U Gives and each bi-annual Crowdfunding cohort, including desired dollar and donor goals, funds and areas to be represented, marketing methods, matches and challenges, and partner collaborations. Goals and strategies should be informed by diversity, equity, and inclusion issues and objectives.
• Work with major gift officers to strategize and secure matches and challenges, and with cross-campus Marketing and Communications staff, student groups, and necessary vendors to develop and execute a comprehensive pre-, during, and post-event marketing and communication strategy.
• Lead efforts within these initiatives to solicit faculty and staff, meaningfully engage current students and volunteers, and create a celebratory day-of campus atmosphere during Seattle U Gives.
• Lead the recruitment and training of volunteer “SU-pporters”, area representatives, and Crowdfunding project teams with the goal of ensuring that every participating area/fund experience success.
• Manage related websites, platforms, and necessary gift processing logistics in partnership with vendors and Advancement Services.
• Assess and report performance, strategize continual improvement, and steward participating areas and donors.

Student Engagement Center (Tell-a-Hawk) 20%

• Collaborate with the Director of Annual Giving and the Engagement Center vendor to develop each year's overall Engagement Center strategy and goals.
• Manage the Engagement Center. In partnership with the Engagement Center vendor, track and assess the implementation and performance of the Engagement Center program (students calling, texting, and emailing university donors, parents, and alumni), addressing problems as they arise and implementing processes of continuous improvement.
• Onboard new Engagement Center managers and liaise their relationship with necessary university partners including Advancement Services, Public Safety, the Office of Information Technology, etc. Ensure the ongoing success of the Engagement Center and, in collaboration with Advancement Services, capture relevant information for upload into the university's database.
• Provide the Engagement Center vendor with any requested information and review and provide feedback on necessary materials, including scripts, training resources, email and text design and content, ask amounts, data specifications, segments, calling pools, etc.

Team Duties, Cross-Team Collaboration & Donor Pipeline Management 15%

• Assist with Annual Giving communications which may include writing, editing and proofreading written content, as well as helping to generate concepts for or refining creative content related to Annual Giving campaigns.
• Work with the Center for Student Involvement, the Student Government of Seattle University and Engagement Center students to recruit Seattle U students as project leads and SU-pporters for crowdfunding and Seattle U Gives. Use Thank-a-thon and these campaigns to teach students the importance and impact of philanthropy at Seattle U and surface students willing to share their stories or gratitude with donors and alumni.
• In collaboration with Alumni Engagement, Student Development and Donor Relations colleagues, work to establish a healthy student to alumni transition by ensuring strategic alignment and cooperation between: new student orientation, the Engagement Center, student-highlighting stewardship activities, the annual Thank-a-thon, student participation in Seattle U Gives and Crowdfunding, commencement activities, and recent alumni activities and communications.
• Plan and oversee execution of the annual Thank-a-thon event, intended to steward donors and nurture a culture of philanthropy among students, faculty, and staff.
• Serve as the Annual Giving team's recent alumni and student philanthropy expert, developing familiarity with these constituencies' preferences to advise and analyze Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement cultivation, engagement, and solicitation strategies.
• Collaborate with the Director in managing the Annual Giving Coordinator by providing relevant training, feedback and mentorship to the Coordinator, as well as ongoing opportunities for personal and professional growth.
• In partnership with the Coordinator, Director and Donor Liaison, oversee project-specific budgets and expenses.
• Attend required meetings and ensure ongoing collaboration with Alumni Engagement and University Advancement colleagues, activities, and events.
• Support and assist with Office of Alumni Engagement events as needed, which may require working an occasional shift in the evening or on a weekend.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and 2+ years' work experience in marketing/sales, non-profit program management, mass communication, fundraising/development, or similar fields.
• High level of cultural competency including a sensitivity to issues of race, class, and the ethical dilemmas that may arise from the development of strong reciprocal partnerships with alumni, donors, friends of the university, students, and faculty and staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with diverse audiences including university leadership, donors, students, faculty and staff, and a diverse alumni population. Strong computer skills, particularly working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Attention to accuracy and detail while accomplishing multiple tasks.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, communicate with sensitivity, follow university protocols, and manage a complex set of assignments through strong analytical, planning, project management, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in managing or serving on a team that manages a giving day, P2P online fundraising event, and/or phonathon program.
• Experience managing student-facing or volunteer programs, projects, or events.
• Familiarity with customer/donor relationship management software such as Raiser's Edge, or willingness and ability to learn new software.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $57,000 – $63,500

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
