Emory University — Assistant Teaching Professor of Visual Arts

Emory University seeks to hire a teaching-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, as part of a multi-year initiative to build our program offerings in the visual arts. The position will teach in Emory’s Integrated Visual Arts Co-Major (IVAC), which is housed in the Department of Film and Media in Emory College of Arts and Sciences. We are searching for an outstanding teaching artist to help efforts to conceptualize and implement 2D and foundations programs for undergraduate students. We are particularly interested in individuals whose creative practices engage with vital concerns across the College, including but not limited to the other arts, the social and natural sciences, environmental studies, the nature of representation, social justice, and AI. Successful candidates will have an established record of excellence in college or university teaching. Demonstrated leadership experience or potential is highly desired. The candidate will teach five courses per year in areas that complement our current strengths in photography and sculpture, such as foundations, drawing, painting, or printmaking. They will also be invited to develop new courses that reflect their practice. Initial appointment is for a period of three years; it is renewable and may lead to promotion within the teaching track. Emory College of Arts and Sciences is a liberal arts college within a top-ranked research university located in the southeastern hub of Atlanta, GA. In addition to the Integrated Visual Arts Co-Major program, Emory’s Department of Film and Media offers a minor and a major in Film and Media, and a media production minor.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • MFA or other terminal degree in visual arts or a related discipline
  • Record of excellence college or university teaching with demonstrated ability to teach across all levels of the undergraduate curriculum
