Job Description:
This Research Assistant (RA) position will work on a research study within the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior that is focused on young adults who use cannabis. The RA’s primary responsibility will be data collection via the administration of in-person or virtual assessments according to the research study protocol. Other responsibilities include participant screening and participant recruitment, which will occur in the Young Adult Partial and Intensive Outpatient Programs at Butler Hospital. Additionally, the RA will assist data checking and perform administrative tasks as required by the protocol of the research study, including oversight of mobile data collection that will be facilitated by a smartphone app. The RA’s roles will also include completing literature reviews, contributing to ongoing research reports and presentations, and other research tasks assigned by study personnel. The RA is expected to interface with hospital-based clinical service providers as part of the recruitment process, as well as with other study personnel and collaborators as needed to advance the scientific aims and project related goals of the studies.
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 5/1/2025 which may be extended based upon available funding.
Job Qualifications
- BA or BS in psychology or related field with 1-2 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Preferred:
- Previous experience with human subject research.
- Knowledge of experimental research methodology and clinical research procedures.
- Previous experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS) and database management software (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics).
- Experience working with young adults.
- Previous experience with a psychiatric population.
- Coursework in addiction, substance abuse and/or psychopharmacology is preferred
- Experience with management of ecological momentary assessment data preferred
Job Competencies
- Willingness to conduct participant recruitment and data collection in a psychiatric hospital setting.
- Willingness to work with diverse populations, including young adults with emergent serious mental illness, including psychosis.
- Must provide own transportation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; attention to detail; maturity, and responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, perform multiple tasks efficiently and accurately, take initiative and maintain organized working conditions required.
- Flexibility in work schedule, including evening and weekends as needed.
- Commitment to maintaining participant confidentiality.
- Willingness and ability to work as a team.
- Ability to seek out, understand, and utilize regular feedback from supervisors is essential.
- Highly refined communication and rapport-building clinical skills are necessary to recruit participants and collect valid and reliable data dealing with sensitive topics with participants who may be wary of participation.
- Closely follow all study protocols and maintaing the strictest confidentiality.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to accomplishing the goals of the research program with the highest degree of quality and integrity.
- Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive community.
