Job Description:

Brown University School of Engineering growing!!  Under the direction of our new Dean of Engineering, Tejal Desai, we are seeking a Deans’ Coordinator for Planning and Research to provide critical, high-level coordination of activities with the School of Engineering’s Deans’ offices. The incumbent serves as the central liaison between the Associate Deans, faculty, students, staff and other internal and external constituents with whom the Leadership Team proactively manages scheduling, special projects and events, drafting briefings and agendas from templates and supports meetings and committee arrangements.  The incumbent manages the Associate Dean of Program and Planning and the Senior Associate Dean for Research and Strategic Initiatives, and serves as a back-up to the primary executive assistant in the Dean’s office.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of skills and experience. Two years of executive level administrative experience, Experience in a university setting, preferred.

  • Strong organizational, administrative and time management skills. Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve and prioritize workload in a multi-task environment while maintaining careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and implement short and long-term goals independently, but also as a strong team member when the situation warrants.
  • Strong customer service orientation with very high level of oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to elicit and communicate information in a clear, informative and concise manner. Confident public relations.
  • Very high level of computer expertise and continued interest in maintaining skills: Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, computerized accounting, database systems including Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet.
  • Demonstrated editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external constituents and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives and experiences.
  • Proficiency with Zoom, WebEx, and other virtual video conference platforms.
  • Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of office systems (records maintenance, procedures, etc.).
  • Detail orientated with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise tact, discretion, judgment and ability to prioritize task completion.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information in a professional, discreet and diplomatic manner.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the University’s goals of cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Experience scheduling complex travel arrangements for high level management.
  • Experience with processing invoices, purchasing, expense tracking, and other financial transactions.
