Job Description:

This position oversees one arm of the faculty affairs unit of the Alpert Medical School. Under the auspices of BioMed Faculty Administration, this individual will be responsible for providing strategic planning and leadership around programming, resources and initiatives to support the ~2400 AMS faculty. S/he will coordinate the operations of three existing faculty-facing units, including the Office of Faculty Professional Development, the Office of Continuing Medical Education, and the Office of Women in Medicine and Science. This individual will also partner with other entities (such as hospital-based CME providers, hospital GME offices, BPI, Advance-CTR, and the AMS offices of Medical Education and Diversity and Multicultural Affairs) to optimize faculty development services and oversee faculty awards and recognition. The Assistant Dean will manage budgets and oversee all administrative functions related to faculty professional development, and will lead efforts to create a comprehensive professional development infrastructure as a key part of Brown’s commitment to recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty.This .5 FTE position oversees and directs faculty development at the Alpert Medical School. This individual will be responsible for providing strategic planning and leadership around programming, resources, and initiatives to support the career and development of the ~2400 AMS faculty. The Assistant Dean for Faculty Development (ADFD) will coordinate the operations of two existing faculty-facing units: The Office of Faculty Professional Development and the Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME). The Office of Women in Medicine and Science (OWIMS), the third unit in the professional development section, collaborates closely under separate oversight. The ADFD will partner with hospital-based CME providers, hospital GME offices, BPI, Advance-CTR, the AMS offices of Medical Education and Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, OWIMS and other entities to optimize faculty development services. The ADFD will manage budgets and oversee administrative functions related to faculty professional development, and will lead efforts to create a comprehensive professional development infrastructure as a key component of Brown’s commitment to recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty.

Required:

  • Advanced medical degree (MD or DO) with training, education, or extensive experience in health professions education (HPE), preferably with master’s level training in HPE
  • Extensive experience in planning, executing, and evaluating professional development end educational programming focused on HPE
  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
