University of Cincinnati — Dean of the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies

The University of Cincinnati, a nationally ranked institution classified as an R1 institution, (Highest Research Activity), invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies. The College is the next evolution of the Division of Experiential-Learning and Career Education. It houses the faculty and staff of the US News and World Report #1 ranked co-operative education program for public universities in the United States. It also houses the new Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Studies, which will serve as a strategic degree completion program and access point for the University’s continued engagement with industry and community partners. 


The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the college with responsibility for leading the faculty and staff; promoting student success; ensuring the integrity, accountability and continuous improvement of academic programs and services; building and maintaining relationships with other deans and with the colleges that have cooperative education programs; growing partnerships with alumni and industry partners to enhance the extent and diversity of our students’ cooperative education opportunities; managing resources; and fundraising. The new Dean will also be a fiscally responsible and visionary leader, who successfully organizes and leads the College; promotes and launches the new Bachelor’s degree in Professional Studies; incorporates the former division of community education (Communiversity and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute [OLLI]) in the new structure; and serves as the liaison with other colleges for credentialing, certification and professional upskilling opportunities for community partners and returning adult learners. 

Reporting to the university’s Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Dean is a member of the Council of Deans and participates in the governance of the university.


Candidates must hold the academic rank of tenured associate or full professor/educator (or equivalent administrative position or experience such as the academic rank of tenured associate or full professor/educator [or equivalent administrative position or experience as Director of Cooperative Education programs and/or Professional Studies division in high-quality national universities]) and possess a distinguished record of advancing cooperative and experienced-based learning and public-facing professional and continuing education, with exemplary commitment to and record of promoting diversity and inclusion. It is preferred that candidates demonstrate successful experience in each of the following areas:

  • Significant higher education administration experience;  
  • Recruitment and retention of diverse students, faculty, and staff in support of a diverse and inclusive community;
  • Commitment to student success in all phases of their academic careers and lives (access, retention and graduation);
  • Budget planning, management, and fiscal responsibility;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that engender cooperation and collaboration among faculty, staff, students, and community leaders;
  • Fundraising and friend-raising with community partners and alumni to promote and advocate on behalf of cooperative education and community learning;
  • Federal and State grant-writing in support of innovations in workforce development and cooperative education;
  • Supporting entrepreneurial innovations to generate revenue;
  • Experience with a university setting where reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes are part of the evaluation of the College’s faculty.
