Point Park University — Assistant Professor of Digital Journalism, Sports Communication or Broadcasting

Point Park University’s School of Communication (SOC) is conducting a search for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Communication. The position will start in the Fall 2023 semester.

Located in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh, Point Park University is a dynamic, urban university with a strong liberal arts tradition. Founded in 1960, Point Park enrolls nearly 4,000 full-time and part-time students in more than 100 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach in two of three SOC academic programs: digital journalism, sports communication, and broadcast journalism. Experience in broadcast reporting is preferred but not required.

  • Additional coursework may include teaching in SOC’s core curriculum for Bachelor of Arts programs.
  • The successful candidate will also advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment and ability to serve the university mission and vision of the SOC, including scholarship.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of success in working with diverse communities of students, colleagues, and clients.

Point Park’s collective bargaining agreement requires faculty members to teach four undergraduate classes or three graduate classes per semester. There are opportunities for course releases for scholarly activity and service to the university.

Qualifications
The Assistant Professor of Communication will:

  • Have a PhD in a communication or media related field, or an MFA and significant experience in a related media field.
  • Have professional work experience in digital journalism, sports communication, or broadcast journalism with a track record of published media items.
  • Be adept at teaching and working with diverse communities of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Express ways the candidate’s teaching and scholarship will complement the SOC.

The SOC offers undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degrees in broadcasting, digital journalism, multimedia, public relations, advertising and social media, and sports communication. It also offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in graphic and interactive design and photography.
