The Opportunity
Harvard University, renowned for excellence in teaching, learning, research and developing global leaders across a breadth of disciplines, seeks its next Vice President for Finance & Chief Financial Officer.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, and with a dotted line to the President, the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) serves as the financial advisor to the President, Provost and other senior leaders. The CFO has overall responsibility for the financial health of Harvard University (“Harvard”) and for the effectiveness and efficiency of its financial management.  The CFO manages a highly motivated and experienced team to deliver high-quality, data-driven perspectives and services related to financial strategy, operations, policy and the allocation of resources.

The CFO oversees and directs a broad array of activities encompassing financial planning, analysis, operations, and compliance. Departments that come under the CFO’s direct management include the controller’s office, budgets and financial planning, risk management and audit services, treasury management, sponsored programs administration, and financial systems solutions.

The Search Advisory Committee invites nominations, expressions of interest, and applications for a collaborative, innovative and dynamic leader who is committed to excellence. The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years of progressive growth in financial management within higher education or an industry of similar complexity; will be a strategic executive with strong financial acumen; will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate credibly across diverse stakeholders; will have exposure to financial systems and business process redesign; and will bring proven experience and success in recruiting, retaining, developing and motivating a talented staff in a high-performance environment, desirable and rewarding work environment. An MBA is preferred.
