Job Description:

Brown University Athletics is currently seeking candidates for the Student-Athlete Development Senior Manager, Academic Services and Career Development position.  Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).

The Student-Athlete Development Senior Manager, Academic Services and Career Development will design, implement, and assess high-impact programs, workshops, and initiatives for Brown’s 1000+ student-athletes. This role will develop and manage a strategic plan to ensure the academic and career success of student-athletes, including leading programs and leveraging campus partnerships to provide holistic support.

Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead academic programming, including coordinating the Tutoring Program
  • Support first-year student-athlete experience programming, including providing comprehensive support for incoming student-athletes that may need additional academic assistance and are institutionally vulnerable
  • Lead the tracking and monitoring of student-athlete academic progress and success, including plans for underprepared student-athletes and recovery plans for underperforming student-athletes
  • Collaborating with campus partners to design and deliver academic resources to support retention and graduation and career services to ensure student-athletes are well prepared to thrive in their professional careers.
  • Provide individual and team services to enhance student-athletes’ career aspirations and development such as career consultations, conducting mock interviews, resume and cover letter writing sessions, etc.
  • Serve as leadership for Brown’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and other Affinity Groups, providing organizational strategy, strategic planning, and supporting the execution of student-driven initiatives.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4-6 years of prior experience working in a collegiate athletics department, preferably in student-athlete services or administration.
  • Prior experience as a competitive collegiate student-athlete preferred.
  • Experience working with SAAC and other Affinity Groups preferred.


  • Strong commitment to and demonstrated skills for working with and advising students from diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives for students and coaches.
  • Ability to work with student athletics of color and provide support, mentorship, and resource referrals.
  • Experience in student-athlete academic services and/or life skills.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills with a variety of programs, preferred.
  • Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files, maintain confidentiality and excellent customer service.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer aptitude for learning new software and problem solving required. Proficiency in word processing, and spreadsheets required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.

All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the appropriate parties.  Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test, maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division), and attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs.
