Major Responsibilities
The Manager, Facilities and Operations manages the daily operations for the various facilities within the School of Engineering (SoE) through coordination and facilitation of resources and services. The Manager will take the lead in representing the School’s construction project needs and implementing plans created for SoE’s buildings and facility renovation projects.  The Manager works with the engineering Deans to coordinate and communicate sensitive space allocation issues.  Initiates communication with faculty on space change needs.  The manager is the School’s primary contact in initiating conversations between faculty, staff and students and the various offices within the University’s Facilities Management (FM) department, remaining directly involved to advocate for the School’s needs and facilitating timely and through completion of projects. The Manager works with FM to develop procedures for communicating building issues, and follows through to ensure FM completes necessary work.  The Manager coordinates compliance with safety guidelines by facilitating communication between Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and faculty/students within the School. The Manager oversees documentation of student training, tracking and disposition of surplus equipment, and equipment inventory. The Manager works closely with various campus resources including Public Safety, Access Control and EH&S in addressing the School’s operational needs.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or closely related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 to 7 years of closely related experience, knowledge of research and teaching facilities and knowledge of laboratory safety and security preferred.

Job Competencies

  • Indicate the essential job competencies. Competencies are required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job successfully.
  • Experience/understanding in a customer service driven operation including willingness to be available on weekends or evenings when necessary.
  • 5-7 years supervisory experience required, in a higher education setting preferred.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Docs, Web based programs and tools.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation, strong service orientation and communication skills, both verbal and written; discretion, tact, direct, and demonstrated ability to present data and communicate effectively in a collaborative team environment with diverse campus groups.
  • Ability to work independently and implement short- and long-term goals independently, but also as a strong team member when the situation warrants.
  • Strong planning, management and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Project management software skills preferred.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and handle confidential information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
