Baptist Health Sciences University — President

Baptist Health Sciences University (BHSU) and Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation (BMHCC) seek a dynamic, experienced leader to serve as University President. Applications and nominations are invited. Located in the heart of downtown Memphis, Baptist Health Sciences University is an urban campus with a multi-facility footprint of approximately 400,000 square feet spanning 21 acres in the heart of the Memphis Medical District. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an academic leader who is passionate about community-based care and developing the next generation of health sciences professionals.

Building on the legacy of education since 1912, Baptist Health Sciences University (formerly known as Baptist College of Health Sciences) offers 14 majors in nursing and allied health, including undergraduate and graduate degrees and a doctorate of nursing practice. BHSU is a private institution that seeks to attract a diverse student population who share commitments to Christian values and ethics, academic excellence, and lifelong professional development.

The University is amidst aggressive efforts to become one of the Mid-South region’s premier institutions for health sciences and medicine. The University expects to enroll its first class of medical students at the newly formed Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM) in the fall of 2024. In partnership with Baptist Memorial Health Care, Baptist University extends the learning environment beyond the classroom to include experiences found in healthcare settings throughout the Mid-South.

Reporting to the BHSU Board of Directors, and health system leadership, the President provides overall leadership and vision for the University’s strategic initiatives to strengthen nursing, allied health and osteopathic medicine educational programs. The President serves as the senior executive, leading operations through efficient utilization of all resources, including but not limited to: personnel, finances, and facilities. Above all, the next President will also ensure that the University stays true to its Christian mission and that quality educational outcomes are achieved.

Applicants will ideally possess a terminal degree of Ed.D., Ph.D., D.O., M.D. or the equivalent in a field appropriate to BHSU, and the ability to demonstrate expertise in the individual’s discipline in higher education. The successful candidate should align with the faith mission of the organization, and have experience developing collaborative initiatives, along with the personal characteristics needed to promote, foster, and facilitate the trust of colleagues and the broader University faculty. Prior administrative experience in academia is preferred.
