University of Dayton — Director of Student Transitions and Family Programs

The Director of Student Transitions and Family Programs helps to create developmental and peer-led programs focused on the University of Dayton’s commitment to community. The Director of Student Transitions & Family Programs is responsible for all aspects of development, coordination, implementation, and assessment of orientation, transition and parent/family programming, services, and initiatives that support and enhance the adjustment of students and their families as they transition to the institution and navigate the campus environment. This position leads the department’s strategic planning, provides guidance and support for all programs and services, and oversees all departmental assessment, communication, technology, and leadership development strategies in addition to the creation and innovation of new initiatives. The Director provides direct supervision to the Associate Director and Assistant Director in addition to the indirect supervision of all undergraduate and an administrative assistant. Finally, the Director works in collaboration with staff and faculty within the division and across campus as well as off-campus partners to maintain the University of Dayton’s commitment to intentional, integrated, and successful transitional programming.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or related field required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in college student or family transition programming.
  • Minimum of three years of experience coordinating and managing large scale events.
  • Experience training and supervising student and professional staff.
  • Experience working with socially and culturally diverse communities.
  • Work experience that uses excellent communication skills, such as skills in public speaking, negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects, set priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of performance in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a track record of working effectively with students, faculty, and colleagues.
  • The ability to develop relationships and work collaboratively with broad based constituents within a University environment.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel), maintaining websites, and working with various multi and social media and communication platforms.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekend as needed.
  • The ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality, accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in college student or family transition programming.
  • Direct and successful experience with orientation programs for undergraduate students that balance high academic expectations with students’ social efficacy needs.
  • Demonstrated experience with training, supervising, and evaluating professional and student staff.
  • Work experience that uses analytical, problem solving and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to staff development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate throughout the organization; track record of working effectively with faculty.
  • A commitment to inclusion and diversity and a demonstrated ability to work with an increasingly diverse campus community.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic Marianist work environment.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
