The Herb Alpert School of Music at the University of California, Los Angeles is searching for a senior hire in Musicology. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in musicology or a related field, and have the experience and academic record commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor at UCLA. Candidates with significant administrative experience (e.g., chairing a department), who have an excellent teaching and mentoring record and accomplishment in more than one research field, and whose research, teaching, and service notably advance equity, diversity, and inclusion, are especially encouraged to apply. The candidate's areas of specialization should complement or extend the department's already considerable strengths. Complementary areas could include, but are not necessarily limited to: screen-media musicology (film, television, video games, etc.), global music histories, repertories of music or musicking before 1800, writing, and a number of interdisciplinary combinations such as music and disability, politics, race, urban geography, or LGBTQ+ studies. The department is particularly interested in candidates with a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty and student population, and a demonstrated ability to mentor graduate students from a diversity of backgrounds in musicology and related fields. In addition to teaching in the current musicology curricula, we anticipate that our new colleague will take the lead in developing new courses in their areas of specialty.

The Department of Musicology is in The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, with significant historical ties to the Division of Humanities in the College of Letters and Science. The School of Music unites separate departments of Music, Musicology, and Ethnomusicology, as well as interdepartmental degree programs (IDPs) in Global Jazz Studies and Music Industry. (Musicology faculty are active in both IDPs). The School offers the BA, BM, MM, DMA, and PhD degrees in a wide array of performance, creative, and scholarly fields. Given this unique set of alignments and our faculty's history of interdisciplinarity, candidates are encouraged to highlight any relevant interdisciplinary experience they would bring to UCLA.

Candidates should provide (1) a cover letter outlining their qualifications; (2) a scholarly CV (plus a separate professional resume if appropriate); (3) a statement addressing how their work addresses issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (4) the names/contact information of four referees. Writing samples, letters of reference, and statements on research and teaching may be requested later in the process as needed.
