Miami University — Director of Regional eLearning

Miami Regionals – Middletown Campus: Regional Director of eCampus will leverage significant expertise in online learning to provide leadership that initiates increasing opportunities for students and faculty through strategic initiatives in innovative online programming, digital credentials, academic partnerships, learning technology, non-traditional programming, research, and scholarship to advance recruitment, retention, achievement, and new funding/partnerships for the University’s growing portfolio of digitally-enhanced learning opportunities.  Reporting to the Regional Senior Director of eCampus, the Director will oversee the academic, administrative, personnel, and fiscal areas of the Unit.

Duties/Physical Demands:
Regional Director of eCampus will: 

  • Mobilize digital and innovation strategic campus plans; initiate short and long-range goals to meet the MUR mission through internal and external partnerships to expand access and equity in higher education; implement initiatives for online learning, digital learning, and digital credentialing; identify future revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Develop fiscal strategies, budget, resource management, forecasting, and managing departmental budgets in excess of $2M. Allocate resources and support for promising, innovative/disruptive digital learning initiatives that yield a high return on investment or pilot for new markets. 
  • Direct Miami Online Regionals leadership, supervision, and operational processes. Performs hiring recommendations; establishes goals; acts on disciplinary issues, up to and including dismissal recommendations; addresses grievances and plans for corrective action.  Actively promotes staff evaluation and development linked to organizational goals and performance to promote innovation.
  • Manage online program evaluations/assessments and online student grievance processes ensuring adherence to regulatory and compliance standards (OBOR, HLC, State Authorization, ADA) for design and accessibility with university quality standards that advance online growth/retention and academic integrity.
  • Guide online and institutional research and coordinate technology efforts with cross-functional stakeholders to solve complex problems using data strategic data and learning analytics to continuously improve learning experiences, learning outcomes, and increase equity and access to university programs for underrepresented populations.
  • Launch initiatives to pursue grants and scholarships that expand, support, and initiate the use of cutting-edge technology to advance innovative teaching practices that results in local and national recognition for online and digital learning excellence.
  • Direct online course and program development systems, policies, and design processes that result in consistent, research-based, high-quality, and accessible learning experiences through collaboration and change management with campus partners. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to a personal and professional growth mindset by engaging in the continuous investigation of emerging technologies, pedagogy, andragogy, and leadership best practices through educational opportunities; professional publications, presentations, advancing personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Attract top talent to the MUR who are also driven by the mission and share the belief that ‘everyone deserves education to thrive in an ever-changing world.’
  • Use excellent verbal/written communication skills and a thoughtful, persuasive personal style (e.g., diplomacy, negotiation, conflict resolution, group planning) to work in a virtual team environment with effective cross-departmental team-building skills.
  • Produce reports that are clearly written, data-focused, and lead to responsible decision-making.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree required or a closely related field of study; five (5) or more years of progressively responsible leadership in high-impact, growth, and results-oriented positions in a higher education setting; five (5) or more years of experience in directing and leading programming in online education; one (1) or more years of experience in project, fiscal, or departmental management; experience with advanced administration of an LMS, online technologies, PD programs; knowledge of and adherence to regulatory standards. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a fulltime and indefinite basis.

Desired Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with:

  • Master’s degree focused in Online Learning, Leadership.
  • Demonstrated success leading a large team of diverse professionals in a multilayered organizational structure with multiple roles and responsibilities.
  • Experience developing and evolving online learning financial and budget models to support new programs and initiate new strategic partnerships. Experience with the fiduciary responsibility of significant resources in excess of $2 million.
  • Demonstrated work products promoting the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, in particular service to historically underserved, underrepresented, minority, and non-traditional populations.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and success as a public speaker.
  • Experience with State Authorization and higher education regulation of distance learning. 
  • Experience with Online Student Grievances, Academic Integrity.
  • Experience in working collaboratively and proactively in higher education with change management methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated research interest in a field(s) related to online learning and/or digital learning innovation to increase equity and access to university programs.
  • Experience overseeing learning research, particularly inquiry on teaching and learning in the digital environment.
  • Experience researching, writing, securing, and managing grants.
  • Prior service as Principal Investigator for innovative learning initiatives.
  • Entrepreneurial, creative, and resourceful mindset to evaluate new opportunities and partnerships with the appropriate fiscal foundation for ROI using data analysis tools (e.g., TABLEAU, Business Intelligence (BI); Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Relentless drive for achieving results with an ability to span boundaries – big ideas and even bigger challenges are seen as opportunities.
