Charletta H. Barringer-Brown Is the New Dean of the School of Education at Virginia Union University

Charletta H. Barringer-Brown was appointed dean of The Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education at Virginia Union University in Richmond. Dr. Barringer-Brown comes to Virginia Union University after serving as a tenured professor in the department of political science and public administration and as the faculty director of general education at Virginia State University. Earlier in her career, Dr. Barringer-Brown served as an assistant dean, department chair, and director of research at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina from 2004 to 2018.

“My job as the dean is to lead the Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education at Virginia Union University — its strategy, vision, and financial steering depend on me,” Dr. Barringer-Brown said. “My career is no longer my focus. Instead, I must ensure that my students, faculty, and staff are all successful in their endeavors, and this must be my focus. As dean of the School of Education, I am in the rare and fortunate position of making a real impact within the community, influencing the ecosystem of higher education, and inspiring others to reach their potential. There is no greater privilege than helping others succeed.”

Dr. Barringer-Brown is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree in special education from Virginia State University, a doctorate in administration and supervision of special education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and a Ph.D. in public policy and administration with a concentration in law and public policy from Walden University.
