Brown University — Faculty Appointment Manager

Job Description:

The Faculty Appointment Manager (FAM) serves as a key member of the Faculty Administrative team within the Office of the Dean of the Faculty (DOF). They are responsible for managing the non-regular faculty appointments, overseeing the temporary teaching budget, developing an in depth understanding of faculty human resources and related compliance and business needs and supervise staff. They foster collaborative working relationships across ~70 academic units and play a critical role in faculty related services and operations. The FAM is responsible for preparing written communications and reports and must gain a strong understanding of Workday’s Human Capital Management business processes. They are involved with managing procedural and workflow improvements and participate in project planning. Other responsibilities include assisting with the faculty sabbatical leave process and must possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 – 5 years of related work experience, in an academic setting, with familiarity with faculty appointment systems preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Attention to detail to ensure tasks are completed thoroughly and correctly
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills – meticulous attention to detail critical and required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a complex and diverse community.
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline driven environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both collaboratively and independently, to exercise sound judgment, and to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
  • A capacity to embrace change and identify creative and innovative solutions.
