The Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) is one of seven national mathematical sciences institutes predominately funded by the National Science Foundation. Each year we bring together approximately 1,000 researchers from around the globe to collaborate on challenging topics within and around the computational domain. ICERM is a dynamic, active environment supported and managed by 14 full time professional staff and 9 directors.

The Communications Specialist for the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) manages internal and external communications to engage ICERM’s many constituencies. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Programs & Operations, the Specialist is a cross-platform content producer responsible for developing and implementing communications and outreach that will effectively elevate the profile of ICERM and its programs to the mathematical community, donors, ICERM’s boards, and the broader Brown community. The Specialist will collaborate with the Events Team and the institute’s leadership to ensure that there is a robust communications strategy for ICERM, and that all communications are executed in a professional manner in line with current best practices and trends. This position is responsible for developing content for social media and the web and managing ICERM’s social and digital platforms and marketing materials (print and digital, with a focus on a digital-first communications strategy). The position will also provide assistance as needed for communications related to grant reporting and website content.

ICERM is one of several math institutes funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Launched at Brown University in 2010, the institute’s funding has been renewed by the NSF through 2025. Prior to that date the institute will request renewal for another 5-year grant. This stable cycle of repeat funding in 5-year increments is the typical model for successful NSF-funded math institutes

This position is expected to work occasional night and weekend hours as dictated by ICERM’s event schedule.

Please note: a complete application consists of a cover letter and resume.
