Job Description:

The Assistant Director, Digital Content in Advancement Communications is a versatile content development and digital media/publishing specialist who provides expertise and support for online and digital communications efforts that help advance Brown’s fundraising and alumni engagement priorities. This includes planning, writing, editing, and producing copy and graphics for social media channels and campaigns, web, email, and multimedia projects; ensuring that all content is aligned with strategic priorities and messaging and is relevant and engaging to audiences; supporting the production and publishing workflows for this content on multiple platforms and channels (with a particular focus on management of social media accounts); and the measurement and analysis of these efforts.

Reporting to the Director, Content Strategy and Planning, and part of a creative team, the Assistant Director, Digital Content is a strong collaborator, working closely with other content creators, strategists, designers, videographers, project managers, and division units to successfully execute projects, ensure the highest quality and effectiveness, and continually improve communications and social media efforts that are crucial to the success of Brown’s ongoing digital engagement. In addition, the Assistant Director, Digital Content provides editorial support for other collateral and communications pieces as needed (campaign materials, video content, e-newsletters), contributing creativity, expertise, and consultation on client projects and supporting strategies on how to best use communications channels to meet division goals.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field such as media, communications, marketing and/or education.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with web, email, and social media platforms, publishing and content management systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency or expertise developing, distributing and measuring content for social media and web-based communications channels
  • Experience reporting, measuring, and analyzing web and social media data analytics and familiarity with related tools, such as Google Analytics. Ability to assess content performance as a basis for planning.
  • Graphic design experience
  • Familiarity with laws and statutes governing privacy, copyright, fair use and other areas of intellectual property as it pertains to distributing content.
  • Proficiency in G-Suite (Google Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an advancement setting
  • Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising communications is helpful
  • Strong storytelling and interviewing skills
  • Familiarity with team collaboration and project management tools like Slack and ClickUp
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and other Adobe Creative Suite programs
  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS, SEO, web UX/UI design best practices

  • Strong visual aesthetic and familiarity with preparing images for digital publication using Photoshop or equivalent graphics software.
  • Engage in regular professional development to remain knowledgeable about best practices in social and digital communications.
