Job Description:

The Department of Natural Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New York, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule – PhD preferred) in Chemistry with a starting date in August 2023. We are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated passion for teaching a diverse population of students and experience developing and/or employing effective, innovative techniques in the classroom.

The successful candidate will have a 24-unit teaching load, at least 18 of which will be as an instructor and coordinator of a general education (non-major) course, such as Fundamentals of Chemistry lecture and lab. The successful candidate may also teach upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

The successful candidate will be part of a CUNY-wide cohort of faculty lecturers focused on achieving excellence in innovative and student-centered teaching. This position is eligible for a Certificate of Continuing Employment after five consecutive years of employment.

The Department of Natural Sciences offers general education courses for non-majors as well as a Biological Sciences Major (about 150 undergraduates) and minors in Chemistry, Natural Sciences, Interdisciplinary Environmental Sustainability, and Physics. Baruch College is in the vibrant Gramercy Park District of New York City. It is easily reached from the other boroughs of the City and New Jersey by car and public transportation. Compensation and Benefits:
$69,665 – $82,102

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Other Qualifications:

  • Expert teacher of Chemistry
  • Primary or sole responsibility to teach required undergraduate courses
  • Thought leadership in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), especially as it relates to chemistry, is encouraged
  • Participation in Baruch’s “Inclusive Pedagogy Workshop” and CUNY’s “Innovative Teaching Academy”
  • Demonstrated effectiveness teaching in at least two of the three modalities of in-person, hybrid, and online.
