Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The School of Nursing (SON), within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for full-time, tenure track faculty for the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Appointment to rank is dependent on qualifications relative to the university, college, and school standards.

Tenure track faculty have teaching, research and scholarship, and service expectations. The primary teaching responsibilities will be assigned across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to meet the SON’s needs and include student advising. A clear direction for research and scholarly activity is required. Tenure track faculty are expected to engage in professional and community service and outreach as well as contribute to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. Successful candidates will be expected to relocate to North Carolina and maintain a campus presence as part of the School of Nursing faculty.

These positions will begin August 2023.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in nursing OR a doctorate in a related discipline with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing
  • A current RN license in NC or eligibility for licensure in NC

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who present the following:

  • Teaching experience, certification, and a focused program of research and scholarly activity that complements existing school research and scholarship focus.
  • Community, mental health, medical/surgical and/or critical care practice, or teaching experience.

Required Certifications or Licensure
A current RN license in NC or eligibility for licensure in NC

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The School of Nursing has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern North Carolina through education, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of health care professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement and community outreach and impact. The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium and low fidelity human patient simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical, and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

The SON offers the following degree programs:

  • BS in Nursing (Prelicensure, RN-BSN online)
  • MS in Nursing (Nurse Educator)
  • Post-Master’s Certificate in Family Nurse Practice
  • DNP (Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Executive Leadership, and Post-APRN concentrations)

Clinical Research

  • BS in Clinical Research
  • Post- Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research Operations
  • MS in Clinical Research and Product Development

Over 2,500 undergraduate and nearly 600 graduate students are enrolled in programs within the SON. Currently, the SON has 80 full-time faculty. The SON’s online bachelor’s degree in nursing program is ranked 7th among 2019’s “Best Online BSN Degrees” by US News and World Report.

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application.
