The University of Alabama at Birmingham — Dean, Collat School of Business

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a visionary and proven leader to forge a compelling future for its Collat School of Business as the next Dean. This is a unique opportunity to join a young urban university on the move, with an impressive financial trajectory and a leading academic health science center in one of the largest metropolitan cities in the Southeast. A successful Dean will inherit a fiscally healthy school primed for innovation, following on recent successful reaccreditation and leveraging a freshly constructed $37.5 million building. The Dean will lead all efforts in Forging the Future for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

The UAB Collat School of Business was founded as one of the first four academic schools at UAB. With its nearly 100 talented and dedicated faculty and staff who collaborate across three departments, the School prepares more than 3,500 dynamic and diverse students to become successful leaders and professionals, while using a balanced approach to teaching, research, and service.

Reporting to the University’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Dean of the Collat School of Business will provide the vision and leadership necessary to cultivate a culture of academic excellence in the context of a major public research university in a large and diverse metropolitan area. The new Dean will help transform how the School defines and delivers on its education and research missions, building on existing strengths with external partners and robust interdisciplinary collaborations that exist across the University. The ideal Dean candidate will possess a highly collaborative and transparent style; have experience developing new revenue streams and growing enrollment; a demonstrated track record of advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging; a record of scholarship and faculty mentorship; forging and strengthening relationships with industry partners and the business community; and administrative experience to lead the Collat School of Business to new levels of success and distinction. It is also essential that the Dean be willing and able to balance their leadership of the School with a concurrent obligation as a leader and citizen of the larger UAB and Birmingham communities, actively embracing the external aspects of the role such as student recruitment, cultivation and advancement of fundraising activities, and advancing external partnerships and collaborations with the local business community.
