The George Washington University — President

The George Washington University Board of Trustees and the Presidential Search Committee, led by Chair Trustee Roslyn Brock and Vice-Chair Professor James Tielsch, invite applications and nominations for the next President of George Washington University (GW).

For its next President, GW seeks a visionary, ambitious, and experienced leader who brings a unique commitment to the success of the entirety of the university.  The next President of GW will be expected to partner with GW’s committed Board, faculty, and staff, in the development and implementation of an ambitious strategic agenda that will celebrate the numerous accomplishments of GW’s past, tout the extraordinary alumni who are the best examples of what makes GW proud, and energize the entire university community in its quest over the next decade for ever-increasing academic distinction, thereby, enabling GW to advance beyond its recognized excellence to achieve pre-eminence as an engine for discovery, education, and service broadly defined.

The Board invites and especially encourages those who have a strong and demonstrable track record of success in senior academic leadership positions at GW’s peer or aspirational peer universities, who have a reputation for respecting faculty, staff, students, and alumni in a manner that rewards success.

The Board and the Presidential Search Committee welcome nontraditional candidates from the corporate community or those who have served in senior leadership positions in government, with the proviso that such individuals must be sensitive to GW’s strong commitment to shared governance, and the value they place on the input of faculty, students, staff, and distinguished alumni.

Additional information is available on the Presidential Search Website and in the Position Specification.

Confidential review of applications, nominations and expressions of interest will begin immediately, and will continue until an appointment is made.
