Brown University — Laboratory Manager

Job Description:

This position is responsible for managing a research laboratory and potentially also carrying out unique scientific projects, including anatomical, physiological, behavioral and/or computational studies. The Laboratory Manager will coordinate lab-related scheduling, overseeing the efficient and safe running of the research laboratory, ordering supplies and animals, maintaining extensive records of animals used and safety records, and ensuring safety compliance in the laboratory. This position is also responsible for assisting with organizing conferences and symposia with outside speakers; helping in the writing of grants and papers, including the creation of effective figures and the coordination of reference lists; and systems administration of lab computers.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the start date. Position may be extended based upon available funding.


Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years’ experience working in laboratories
• Experience with laboratory safety procedures required.
• Experience managing lab personnel required.
• Experience with computer science data analysis in engineering or biology preferred.
• Experience ordering and managing budget for laboratory supplies and animal costs preferred.
• Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
