The Board of Trustees of Stockton University (Stockton) is seeking nominations and applications for a collaborative, visionary and student-centered leader to serve as its next president. The next president will succeed Dr. Harvey Kesselman, who will be retiring as president June 30, 2023, after a five-decades-long tenure of extraordinary contributions to the university in a variety of leadership roles. 

Founded in 1969, Stockton University consistently ranks among the nation’s finest educational institutions and among the top 100 public institutions in the U.S. Stockton proudly offers the academic, technological and cultural advantages of a large institution combined with the community spirit of a small liberal arts college. Stockton is noted for combining an outstanding interdisciplinary approach to graduate and undergraduate education with all the qualities of an outstanding employer. Located one hour from Philadelphia and two hours from New York City, the university offers unique living and learning environments throughout southern New Jersey, including the 1,600-acre Galloway campus in the Pinelands National Reserve and Stockton University Atlantic City, located in the University District, just steps from the beach and the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Stockton’s next president will engage the entire community in building on its strategic planning efforts to develop a clear, inspiring vision for the future of the university. Additional short- and long-term priorities for the future of Stockton include continuing to support student success programs and outcomes; building and sustaining a diverse, equitable and inclusive community; strengthening academic excellence through the recruitment, retention and engagement of outstanding faculty; and building sustainable, productive relationships with internal and external constituencies.

The successful candidate must also be a proven strategic thinker who, in conjunction with the Board of Trustees, is able to develop, articulate and execute a well-defined academic and scholarly vision for the future of Stockton University and its role in the southern New Jersey region. The incoming president should be an innovative and results-oriented thought leader who possesses integrity and honesty and exhibits the highest ethical standards. The ability to build strong interpersonal relationships with alumni, donors, business and industry leaders and government representatives will be critical for the new president’s success. The president should possess the academic credentials needed to secure the respect of faculty, students, staff, stakeholders and the community Stockton serves.
