About This Role:

The Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning January 1, 2023. Applicants should have an earned PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology with a research emphasis in one or more of the following areas: criminal profiling, criminal investigation, consultation for law enforcement personnel, leadership principles and administrative practices, and correctional counseling.

We seek candidates with an active research agenda that includes publication of research papers in peer-reviewed conferences and journals and/or submission of research grants and contract proposals to various funding agencies. Faculty of Lamar University are also expected to participate in service opportunities at the department, college, and university levels (e.g., advising students, serving as mentors to students, participating in committees). Finally, candidates should be prepared to teach any combination of courses in the undergraduate curricula in Criminal Justice and teach master's courses in one or more of the research areas listed above.

The Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice is one of the largest and most diverse departments at Lamar University. There has never been a better time to pursue a degree in criminal justice, which covers a broad range of subject areas, from the introduction of criminal justice systems, criminal law, counseling, corrections, police systems, and court systems, to various topic and seminar courses on violence, serial murder, victimology, cybercrime, organized crime, social justice, and homeland security.

The criminal justice programs in the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice include B.S. and B.A., and M.S. in Criminal Justice. Both undergraduate and graduate programs provide on-campus and online programs.
