Job Description Summary:
The University of Kansas Medical Center's (KUMC) Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is seeking a self-directed, dynamic professional who will play a pivotal role coordinating and boosting the university's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor (VC) for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Program Manager is a key member of the team in the Office for our Kansas City, Salina, and Wichita campuses, and surrounding communities. The Program Manager is primarily responsible for coordinating heritage month celebrations, facilitating communication between team members, supports the Director in giving detailed attention to programs strategy, delivering DEI related training to employees and learners, and coordinating grant projects. The Program Manager will actively engage employees and learners; help convene diverse individuals and groups around a common purpose; and work with key stakeholders to support strategic programmatic initiatives.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support initiatives of the Office for DEI, DEI cabinet, subcommittees, and affinity groups by coordinating relevant programming needed to help raise the collective consciousness of faculty, staff, students, and surrounding communities
  • Attend internal and external resources fairs and events to share DEI initiatives and programs
  • Compile and disseminate programming data
  • Coordinate Continuing Education programming and logistics with the Office for Continuing Education
  • Coordinate grant projects
  • Plans and supports meetings and events to drive DEI initiatives
  • Collaborate with employees and learners on issues regarding DEI initiatives on KUMC campuses (Kansas City, Salina, and Wichita)
  • Plan, organize and coordinate event activities including logistics, identifying speakers, disseminating information, working with communications for advertising and marketing
  • Collaborate with the DEI team, Communications and DEI Committees to update and maintain the DEI and Social Justice Toolkits.
  • Acquire new knowledge and networks both inside and outside the organization
  • Deliver DEI related training to employees and learners
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse audiences at all levels across KUMC campuses (Kanas City, Salina, and Wichita), The University of Kansas Health System and surrounding communities
  • Coordinate bi-annual travel to Salina and Wichita for the Office for DEI
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in all forms, including written and verbal, to convey informative, accurate information to all interested parties
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in relevant field (e.g., public health, business, ethnic or gender studies preferred)
  • Two or more years' experience with DEI initiatives
  • One to two years overseeing and organizing programs
  • Demonstrates cultural humility and behaviors in all interactions
  • Demonstrates experience building and executing successful programs
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of DEI principles
  • Demonstrates high level of professional, emotional intelligence, hospitality, and discretion
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively manage high-volume workload and complex priorities
  • Self-directed, action oriented, superior attention to detail, strong organizational skills
  • Ability to lead strategic priorities through to results
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), analytical, customer service, problem solving and presentation skills
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent project management skills including the ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders, timelines, and projects at the same time – while providing support and direction to key stakeholders throughout the business
  • Ability to think intuitively, creatively, and strategically
  • Able to handle complex and confidential information with discretion
