The College of Health and Human Development:
The College of Health and Human Development is comprised of the departments of Child and Adolescent Development, Communication Disorders and Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences, Environmental and Occupational Health, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Recreation and Tourism Management. The college has 127 faculty and enrolls over 7,300 undergraduate and graduate students. The departments offer Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degree programs in a wide variety of health related and other professional fields. Departments within the college offer on-line courses and a fully on-line graduate degree program is offered in Communicate Disorders. The college hosts the following centers and institutes: the Aquatic Centers at Castaic Lake; the Child and Family Studies Center; the Consumer Resource Center; the Language, Speech, and Hearing Center; the Center for Recreation and Tourism; the Physical Therapy Center for Advanced Clinical Practice; the Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing; the Center of Achievement through Adapted Physical Activity; and the Marilyn Magaram Center for Food Science, Nutrition, and Dietetics.

The Position of Dean, College of Health & Human Development (HHD): 				
As a member of the university's senior academic team, the Dean is the chief administrator of the college. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and oversees departments, programs, and centers in the college. The Dean provides the primary leadership for planning, developing, and administering college instructional programs; sustaining an environment supportive of teaching, research, scholarship, and academic excellence; and developing and promoting long-range goals for the college. The Dean has primary responsibility for oversight of the centers, currently nine, under the auspices of the college; managing relations with 16 accrediting agencies; planning and administering the college annual budget; implementing and interpreting university and state policies; making independent recommendations on all college personnel matters; and recommending appointment of Department Chairs and supervising and evaluating their administrative functions. The Dean has responsibility for providing effective leadership to the increasing ethnic diversity and international character of the college. The Dean represents the college within the university and community, and performs other duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. As a leader, the Dean demonstrates a commitment to student success that is mission aligned with the university's vision, values and priorities; establishes an ethical and collegial work environment, promoting a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team; encourages a courageous and resilient solution-oriented environment by participating in new opportunities to further the mission of the university; participates in developing initiatives that further support the campus mission with a service-oriented and catalytic mind set; and strengthens employees by being communicative and a talent builder that develops team attributes, furthering departmental goals.

Qualifications: 				
Required qualifications include an earned doctorate from an accredited institution and qualifications for a faculty appointment at the rank of Professor within one of the departments of the college; a record of professional, scholarly, teaching, and educational accomplishments commensurate with appointment as a tenured faculty member with research related to health and human development; three or more years of increasingly responsible academic leadership at the level of department chair or higher; effective resource management skills (budget, personnel, facilities); successful fundraising and grant generation; record of supporting faculty development in teaching, research, scholarship, and service; experience working with and supporting a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and programs and commitment to advancing opportunities in a diverse environment; and demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, access, and inclusion in the college and the university.

Preferred qualifications include: successful experience with accreditation procedures and processes; demonstrated ability to analyze, plan and implement relevant and visionary programs and experiences for the College; understanding of high impact practices for student success and retention; the ability to articulate a clear strategic vision; skills in leading diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of the college and university by fostering an ethical, inclusive, and collegial work environment; a demonstrated commitment to regional recruitment of students and retention planning; the ability to function in a collective bargaining environment; a record of effective and innovative leadership in grants, and contracts; excellent communications skills and the ability to create a compelling narrative to advance the College; demonstrated experience engaging with external stakeholders and partners; a history of working effectively within an academic administrative team; organizational management experience in an accredited institution of higher learning similar to Cal State Northridge, including work with collective bargaining units; and experience leading organizational change in a dynamic and diverse environment.
