The Department of Finance at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for two tenure‐track Assistant Professor positions in the area of investments and personal financial planning with appointment to begin Fall, 2023.

Position

The Department is interested in candidates with strong teaching and research potential.  The successful applicant is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students, value diversity, serve on the committees, and engage in activities that benefit the department, University, and community.  Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching, strong scholarly and creative activities which result in publication of high-quality refereed journal articles, and substantial services. 

The new hire for the investments position the will have the opportunity to lead the department’s highly successful Titan Capital Management (TCM) student-managed investment program as Managing Director.  This role would entail collaboration and interaction with associated faculty and students, alumni and industry personnel for TCM related activities.   The two TCM student-managed investment funds currently have over $2.5 million in assets under management.  The college is also affiliated with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute.

The new hire for the financial planning position will serve as the director of the CFP Board-Registered Professional Certificate in Personal Financial Planning Program within the Department.  The mission of this seven-course certificate program is to prepare undergraduate business students take the CFP exam in pursuit of careers as professional financial planners.  The key responsibilities of this position include student mentoring, maintaining compliance with CFB Board’s requirements, and engaging in fundraising activities for the program through grants and external funding.  

The qualified candidates for director positions will receive additional compensation and teaching load reduction.

Required Qualifications

  • A doctorate in Finance or a related field from an accredited institution – ABD’s may apply evidence that the degree will be completed by the appointment date 
  • Strong teaching and research potential
  • Evidence of (or potential for) publications in high quality journals 
  • Evidence of excellent teaching potential
  • A keen interest in assuming the director roles as described above
  • For the financial planning position, CFP certification or ability to sit for CFP Board’s CFP® Certification Examination within 1-2 years of appointment
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse range of students, faculty, staff, and external audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • For the financial planning position, experience in the personal financial planning profession or a personal financial planning program

College of Business & Economics is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) at both the undergraduate and master’s levels. There are about 300 faculty members and close to 9,000 students, including more than 600 graduate students. Bachelors’ degrees are offered in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Entertainment & Tourism, Finance, Management (Operations, General, and Human Resources), Information Systems/Decision Sciences, Marketing, and International Business, among others. The department houses three active centers of excellence – Center for Real Estate, Titan Capital Management, and School of Risk Management and Insurance.  These entities raise funds for extra-curricular student activities and provide opportunities for interaction with the local business community. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases.
