Job Description:

The Program Coordinator has primary responsibility to provide leadership and care for the campus Jewish community as a member of the professional team in OCRL and as a collaborative colleague with Hillel and in various university and community functions. The Program Coordinator provides pastoral care and assists in the leadership of religious services, student advising and crisis intervention. The Program Coordinator is an advocate for multi-faith/cultural understanding and cooperation, and works closely with the Chaplain of the University, the Associate Chaplains, the Religious Life Affiliates, and the student Multi-Faith Council to promote multi-faith/multicultural cooperation, tolerance, and understanding.

The Program Coordinator, Jewish Community position is a 20 hour per week position. Brown University envisions that the Program Coordinator’s responsibilities require 2-3 days of OCRL engagement and presence per week.

Job Qualifications

  • Rabbinic ordination with strong skills in text study, liturgy and pastoral issues.
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community, ideally locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Administrative, communication, and social networking skills.
  • Leadership skills for the continued development of a major campus presence in a multi-faith and multicultural environment.
  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
  • An approachable, dynamic, energetic, and engaging personality.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communications.
  • Skill and comfort in a technology-rich environment, including strong social media acumen.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to complete job requirements.
  • Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience working with college students, with informal/experiential education, and in a pluralistic setting.
