Job Description:

The Financial Services Specialist serves as a key member of the Financial Operations Cashier Office team supporting all aspects of University receipts. Under the direction of the Manager of Financial Operations & Customer Receivables, the individual in this position is responsible for the accurate and timely recording of all incoming University receipts from an extensive variety of sources on the University cashiering system and as necessary, non-integrated subsystems.

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Process receipt of all payments from a variety of sources for students, borrowers, over-the-counter departmental deposits for University departments, and gift receipts to the University. Monitor the receipt of third party students account payments processed through clearing accounts and ensure pending payments are properly accounted for and clearing accounts reconcile on a monthly basis.
  • Responsible for beginning and end of day cash audits, balancing and reconciliation of daily cashiering activity, and completing daily reconciliation reports.
  • Coordinate with departments requiring assistance with requests for cash orders and/or Brinks armored car services; serve as primary liaison for movement of monies and negotiable items to and from bank vault, Cashiers Office, and various other locations.
  • Serve as primary contact and processor of student emergency funds/grant processing in the Cashier Office (for student refunds, emergency card payment processing, etc.).
  • Research unidentified payments; communicate with vendors and departments to identify proper application
  • Provide back-up support to other members of the Financial Operations & Customer Accounts team as needed.
  • Provide department support as the Financial Coordinator for Workday transactions and ordering and maintaining inventory of office supplies and bank supplies for University departments.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with cashiering, accounting, and/or bank teller experience

Job Competencies:

  • Excellent customer relations, previous customer service experience, and verbal/written communication skills to interact with a varied customer base and contacts with internal departments outside entities.
  • Aptitude for working with numbers – some previous accounting/bookkeeping experience helpful
  • Attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills as well as ability to ensure tasks are completed thoroughly and correctly
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to shift focus quickly
  • Organization and the ability to handle and complete multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and independently.
  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment
