A Trio of African Americans Have Been Appointed to Dean Positions

Tobias Raphael Morgan is the new dean of students at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the inaugural assistant dean and assistant vice president for the division of student success at Clinton College in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Dr. Morgan received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. He holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from American InterContinental University and a Ph.D. from Morgan State University in Baltimore.

Alphonso Keaton was appointed dean of undergraduate studies at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. He has served as interim dean since 2019. Earlier, he served for five years as the associate dean for the Brailsford College of Arts & Sciences.

Dr. Keaton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology from Fisk University in Nashville. He earned a Ph.D. in physiology from Meharry Medical College in Nashville.

DeMethra LaSha Bradley is the new vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Scripps College in Claremont, California. She was the acting vice president for student affairs and dean of students, assistant vice president for student affairs and dean of students, and chair of the case management and campus response teams at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Dr. Bradley is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she majored in Black studies. She earned a master’s degree and an educational doctorate from the University of Vermont.
