Purdue University — University Undergraduate Academic Advising Specialist

Purdue University and the University Undergraduate Academic Advising (UUAA) department is seeking an experienced advisor to serve in a newly created role that supports special populations for advising, contributes to advising and professional development for the university advising community, and helps develop an inclusive advising framework for the university. The primary responsibilities of this role include:

Advising: provide guidance and support to a specific set of students in transition between majors. The person who assumes this role will assist in the creation and development of this program which requires collaboration with the Center for Career Opportunities.

Special needs support and professional development: assist departments across the university with advising needs on an as-needed basis. General guidelines will be developed based on the skillset and experience of the person in the role. This position will also work directly with the UUAA Advisor Development and Professional Training (ADaPT) director to develop and deliver quality professional development opportunities for all advisors.

Additionally, this position will assist with learning opportunities for all academic advisors in the continuing Inclusive Purdue University and the University Undergraduate Academic Advising (UUAA) department is seeking an experienced advisor to serve in a newly created role that supports special populations for advising, contributes to advising and professional development for the university advising community, and helps develop an inclusive advising framework for the university.

What is needed:

  • Master’s degree (or comparable years of experience) in student personnel, higher education, or relevant field
  • Three years of experience as an academic advisor or in a student services role
  • Higher Education experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to collaborate with faculty, staff, students and parents
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy necessary
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and resolve conflict
  • Basic skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
