Position Overview
The Associate Vice President for Institutional Research and Planning is a strategist and analyst responsible for developing and leading the Office of Institutional Research and Planning team within the Office of Academic Affairs and serves as a campus-wide resource for institutional data.

50% Provides thought leadership in building a data-informed decision culture at Ohio State University by championing and collaborating with campus stakeholders in broadening data sharing, data governance, actionable insight development, and professional skill development.

Develops and implements a multi-year plan for growing and maintaining Ohio State’s analytic and data capabilities relative to institutional data.

Provides leadership for institutional research, mandatory reporting, academic planning, accreditation, assessment, program review, business analytics and other data-focused decision-support activities.

Leads a team that supports strategic, academic, and budgetary planning and decision-making through analytics, including the presentation and distribution of relevant and timely information, policy analyses, peer comparisons, and projections of future trends.

30% Enables the institution to develop increasing maturity in research, statistical and predictive analysis, and reporting in support of campus leaders and decision makers.
Ensures that data and analytical insights are presented professionally and formatted for multiple constituencies with a strong bias toward data visualization. Builds and maintains an innovative website for institutional data.

20% Prepares comparative analyses of Ohio State to peer institutions as a context for planning and decision-making, policy development, and reviews.

Responds to internal and external requests for analytic information about Ohio State’s academic people, programs, structures, and curriculum.

Experience Requirements

  • Effective at engaging students, faculty, and staff and other decision makers as key consumers and clients of institutional research. Demonstrated collaborative style working across institutional boundaries.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in institutional research, program assessment, strategic planning and data management and analytics.
  • Expertise in data assets and their use in higher education and has both advanced training and a record of achievements in using data evidence to promote a data-informed decision culture.
  • Deep understanding of the trends, new developments, and competitive dynamics of higher education.
  • Demonstrated breadth of knowledge and experience that is commensurate with Ohio State’s comprehensive array of enterprise assets including the academic campus, regional campuses, medical center and affiliated entities
  • A record of publications and/or presentations in national and regional professional and academic journals and meetings
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting, hiring, and retaining staff and successfully managing a team and creating a positive team culture.
