About the Opportunity
The Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences at Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. We seek broadly trained candidates with expertise in areas such as social-ecological coupling, urban ecology, sustainable development, natural resource management and environmental/land use planning (with an emphasis on nature-based solutions), sustainability sciences, conservation biology, environmental water quality/restoration, or related fields. Candidates who can leverage their prior experience with government, industry or non-profit organizations to enhance experiential learning opportunities for students are strongly encouraged to apply. Given the diversity of our curriculum, we seek candidates that can offer both day and evening courses.

The Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences is strongly interdisciplinary and administers multiple undergraduate majors and combined majors in the College of Science at Northeastern University and MS degrees in Marine Biology and in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences as well as a researched based PhD program. The Department also contributes to the curriculum for undergraduates majoring in Biology. Northeastern University occupies a vibrant 67-acre campus in the heart of Boston, surrounded by other leading educational, health care, technological, and research institutions, as well as world-renowned venues for art and music (see The Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences also operates the Nahant Campus, which serves as the location for the Coastal Sustainability Institute and the Marine Science Center.

The Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor will be the instructor of record for 6 courses that are either part of the current curriculum or are new courses developed by the candidate to serve the needs of our rapidly evolving and growing academic programs, including our MS degree in Environmental Science and Policy, as well as our undergraduate degrees in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences and Environmental Studies. The Department Chair, Associate Chair, Graduate Program Director and/or Faculty Heads of these programs will work with the candidate to identify new course needs. The Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor may be offered one course release per academic year to facilitate additional service requirements to the department. Service requirements may be assigned at the discretion of the Chair of the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences and may include but are not limited to academic advising, program development, curriculum development, and committee appointments.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the environmental/sustainability sciences or another closely related discipline by the appointment start date. Candidate should possess excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate lecture courses, and exemplary communication, collaboration and leadership skills. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
