Principal Functional Responsibilities

  1. Lead a team that works closely with clients, business analysts, and team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of very complex quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IT strategies and comply with the organization’s architectural and security standards.
  2. Participate in IT Department planning and prioritization and provide recommendations and oversight for the technical direction of the application development environment. Communicate regular status updates of current projects to the Director of Information Technology and Project Manager.
  3. Plan, direct, and assist in enterprise report development (Argos) supporting institutional needs. Assist with the development of other Envisions software & recommending process improvements leading to efficiencies throughout the development lifecycle.
  4. Plan, direct, and assist in building integration interfaces between multi-vendor software packages supporting business requirements. Assist with recommending process improvements leading to efficiencies throughout the development lifecycle.
  5. Oversight of administrative support for functional offices.
  6. Work with both the systems and database administrators for the Banner suite to ensure that upgrades and patch sets that impact the ERP environment are implemented and tested in non-production environments and migrated into production environments in an accurate and timely manner.
  7. Supervise the development and implementation of database standards and integrity controls.
  8. Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of database management systems (DBMSs) for multiple very complex applications.
  9. Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders to ensure alignment with and support for established business objectives.
  10. Manage the project portfolio to ensure projects are prioritized to support the institution’s strategic plan. Act as a liaison to the University community, providing the information is available and adequately communicated.
  11. Manage the portfolio of business applications to ensure technology is appropriately positioned to support the strategic plan of the institution.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Degrees: A baccalaureate degree in an appropriate field and six or more years of relevant professional experience or a combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associate degree in IS/CS plus eight years of experience including; leading the development of application requirements; design, development and/or maintaining and providing support for multiple complex applications, user interfaces, application functions, application interfaces, databases or database applications.

Experience: Experience leading the implementation of complex applications in adherence with system life-cycle standards, and IT Architectural and Security protocols; performing analysis and judgment regarding interdependencies of processes/applications/technologies; developing application requirements based on business requirements from clients and technical requirements from IT support specialties and working effectively with limited oversight. Additional experience highly desirable:

  • UNIX and Linux Bash shell scripting, Windows Server and PowerShell scripting, Oracle databases, and procedural and programmatic languages such as SQL*PLUS, PL/SQL, C, ProC. and TOAD. Oracle WebLogic and Microsoft SQL Server. Experience with Ellucian Banner, Evisions Argos, Apache Tomcat, Java, Oracle WebLogic, Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP, SAML, SSO, Restful API, XML, Office 365 Suite including SharePoint.
  • Working knowledge of computer networks, servers, application development tools, and change control.
  • Strong functional and technical/back-end knowledge of Banner or other ERP systems including experience with workflow, document imaging, and reporting tools.
  • Experience leading technical teams in a project management environment.
  • Experience in a higher education environment
