Job Description:

Brown University Athletics is currently seeking candidates for the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Wellness and Performance position.  Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).

As a key member of the Division of Athletics and Recreation’s senior leadership team, this role is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of student-athlete welfare and performance. The position is responsible for the successful implementation of high-performance strategies and management outcomes, particularly in relation to the focus areas of mental performance and mental health, sports medicine, sports nutrition, and sports performance (strength and conditioning, analytics, etc.). Using a collaborative and comprehensive approach, this position will ensure that every student-athlete receives the highest quality of care and access across every aspect of their training. This position will report to the Deputy Director of Athletics for Governance and Student Services.

Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing direct supervision of Care and Performance Unit
  • Serve as primary liaison between division, university, and third-party entities
  • Develop and implement innovative student-athlete wellness and performance programming
  • Provide administrative oversight for Care and Performance Ecosystem

Entry into the candidate pool requires the following:

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Sport Science, Sport Administration, Exercise Science, Health Care Administration or a related field
  • Five (5) years experience as a high-level administrator or director of a collegiate or professional staff (e.g., sports medicine, sports performance, sport psychology, sport nutrition, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Advanced license/certification in a specialty relevant to the job responsibilities
  • Knowledge of health and performance policies and procedures and adherence to professional standards of care
  • Knowledge of NCAA and member rules and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders
  • Prior experience in strategic planning to achieve high-performance sport outcomes
  • Proven success building strategic relationships and a proven capacity to influence, appeal and work in collaboration with stakeholders and diverse constituents
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.

All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the appropriate parties.  Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test, maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division), and attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs.
