Brown University — Research Scientist

Job Description:

The Research Scientist will join the School of Public Health at Brown University and collaborate with investigators on ongoing epidemiology and environmental health research projects. These projects will investigate the patterns, determinants, and health effects of early life environmental pollutant exposures, as well as biological pathways that underlie associations between exposure and health. Key data resources include the HOME, MIREC, EARTH, and PEACE Studies, as well as the Rhode Island based Hassenfeld Cohort. The Research Scientist I will work with a multidisciplinary team that includes epidemiologists, biostatisticians, engineers, chemists, exposure scientists, and clinicians.

The Research Scientist will participate in epidemiological study design, implementation, and interpretation. In addition, the Research Scientist I will develop and/or implement basic and complex statistical analysis of studies that use biomarker, questionnaire, neuropsychological, and microarray data. Finally, the Research Scientist I will author or co-author scientific publications. The Research Scientist I will receive mentoring and guidance from faculty with expertise conducting molecular epidemiology studies and conducting sophisticated statistical analyses.

Job Qualifications:
PhD in epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, or other public health related discipline and a minimum of 3 years of applied research experience in conducting environmental health studies.

Demonstrated expertise in advanced epidemiological methods, including mediation analyses, inverse probability weighting, and directed acyclic graphs.

Demonstrated experience working with high dimensional data, including chemical exposure biomarkers and/or microarray data.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise reports and presentations about results and complex issues.

Demonstrated scientific stature in peer-review publications and service to professional organizations.

Experience in mentoring trainees and other staff

Ability to meet frequent, multiple and tight deadlines

Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Ability to travel within the U.S and internationally.

Must have an asserted research ability demonstrated through publication and grant record.

Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.

Must have the ability to work effectively with staff, students, faculty, and corporate collaborators.

Proficiency with basic technology is required.

Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 10/31/2022 which may be extended based upon available funding.
