About the Opportunity:

The Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship is the home for Entrepreneurship at Brown and serves as a resource for the entire University. The Center does this through three primary areas of focus, including teaching and instruction, co-curricular programming, and venture support programs.


We seek a Program Coordinator to support a number of key programs within the Nelson Center portfolio, especially those in the areas of Co-Curricular and Venture Support. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Supporting Breakthrough Lab, our summer accelerator, through the application cycle and through the summer months when it is in session.
  2. Supporting the Brown Venture Prize application cycle, including the application process itself, recruiting application mentors, and organizing the selection committee process.
  3. Coordinating Community Lab (Co-Lab) a community of founders who receive dedicated workspace and other program support during the fall and spring semesters.
  4. Coordinating our EIR (Entrepreneur in Residence) and PEIR (Peer Entrepreneur In Residence) programs.
  5. Coordinating the Hazeltine Mentorship Award, which recognizes mentors who have been particularly impactful in supporting Brown student entrepreneurs.
  6. Coordinating our support for Entrepreneurship Internships, run in collaboration with Careerlab.

Within each of these areas the Program Coordinator works primarily with the Assistant Director, the Associate Director, and the Breakthrough Lab Director, to ensure that each program is run successfully and meets its program goals. The Program Coordinator may also work with other relevant Nelson Center Staff and partners from other departments as needed, and may also supervise student employees in certain areas. This position reports to the Assistant Director. The Program Coordinator may have responsibilities for new efforts that are developed by the Nelson Center as it continues to grow.


  • Bachelor’s Degree, plus 2 – 3 years of relative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong detail orientation.
  • Self-motivated; demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Strong systems orientation, skilled at developing processes and systems that meet various needs and will be sustainable over time.
  • Knowledge of higher-education, startup, or non-profit setting is highly desirable.
  • An interest in entrepreneurship or in learning more about entrepreneurship.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working with students and faculty is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • This position requires a strong commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Computer skills/experience in: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Social Media, Mailchimp, and website management programs (especially WordPress). Familiarity with design programs, like Adobe, Figma, or Sketch a plus.
  • Must enjoy working with technology.
  • Ability and flexibility to handle competing priorities in a multi-task environment where interruptions are frequent.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • The ability to work independently in a highly professional demeanor.
