Job Description:

The Associate Director of Learning Initiatives and Inclusive Community within the Division of Campus Life is responsible for managing, facilitating, and developing programming to support a culturally competent learning and professional development environment for staff. The Associate Director is also responsible for facilitating inclusive community building and advancement within the Division. The Associate Director provides professional expertise, strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and collaborative guidance for this work, which has Division- and University-wide impact.  Reporting directly to the Director of HR for the Division of Campus Life and working closely with other senior leaders in the Division, the position is responsible for leading and implementing key organizational and programmatic initiatives, expanding outreach, and contributing expert knowledge and skills for advancing learning, professional development, and diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) initiatives within Campus Life that are innovative, proactive, responsive, and nimble.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Academic or professional training in, or demonstrated knowledge of, current critical/theoretical approaches and best practices for professional development and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within institutions.
  • 3-5 years of direct or related professional work experience, preferably in the field of higher education.
  • Prior work in project planning and execution, management, and community building.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating learning programs and professional development initiatives.
  • Experience with developing, implementing and assessing DEI-related initiatives.
  • Experience writing and executing learning/professional development plans and diversity action plans is preferred.

  • Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously, adjusting quickly to changes needed.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to effectively engage and present to a wide variety of constituents, both internally and externally, and in a variety of forums.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with exceptional listening skills and high emotional intelligence.
  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
  • Strong quantitative skills including experience creating and analyzing reports.
  • Ability to identify, develop, implement and evaluate new programming related to professional development and DEIB.
  • Ability to promote and model a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work environment and engage in educational opportunities.
  • Ability to establish interest in and use creativity in implementing staff training programs.
  • Strong systems skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), Google Suite, database and resource planning systems.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team. Commitment to an environment that nurtures cooperation and diversity.
