About the Opportunity:

We seek a founding Associate Director for Brown’s Bridge Scholars Program to bring vision and leadership to development of a new summer bridge program, building on the work of the 2020-21 Task Force on Anti-Black Racism. This new program will incorporate best practices in the field and will center the experiences of PEERS (persons excluded because of race and ethnicity) to increase diversity among future leaders.

The position will be located in the Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning, which seeks to provide a place where all learners at Brown University can grow, interdisciplinary collaborations can form, and educators can experiment with different modalities of teaching and learning. At the core of our work is a commitment to educational excellence, equity, and access through evidence-based, reflective practices. Through educational partnerships at Brown and globally, we advance the university’s mission and create teaching and learning communities dedicated to improving learner success and supporting educators’ professional growth.

Responsibilities:

Initial programming will include a 6-7-week residential Summer Bridge program, offering for-credit and community-building experiences to develop a campus culture of equity. The Associate Director will hire and supervise a program manager and hire and coordinate the work of participating faculty and student workers. This position will work collaboratively with Sheridan staff and campus partners to develop and evaluate this initiative.

This is a three-year term appointment with possibility for renewal. For candidates who seek to teach a course in the program, there is also the possibility of a non-tenure-track faculty appointment.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years’ experience in work related to summer bridge or student success programs is required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • A doctorate or the required terminal degree in a discipline associated with a Brown University department  if the candidate seeks to teach in the program.
  • Experience with implementing inclusive and equitable teaching and mentoring practices is required.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment
