Position Announcement
The Department of Marketing in the Lundquist College of Business seeks to fill three tenure-track faculty positions. Structurally, two positions are intended for the assistant professor level and one position at an advanced level (associate or full professor).

The University of Oregon is supporting the Department of Marketing's initiative to hire a cluster of scholars with aligned research and teaching interests around the theme of “Marketing for a Better World.” The marketing discipline is increasingly shifting toward uncovering new ways marketing can address grand challenges and be used for good, as represented by recent special issues in premier marketing journals:

“Marketing has the power to improve lives, sustain livelihoods, strengthen societies, and benefit the world at large.” — Journal of Marketing's 2021 “Better Marketing for a Better World” Special Issue.

“The grand challenges of climate change, widening inequalities with respect to gender, race, and wealth, alongside current healthcare, social, and economic crises are compelling organizations to reimagine their marketing strategy to make a meaningful contribution for a better world.” — Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science's announcement of its upcoming “Reimagining Marketing Strategy: Driving the Debate on Grand Challenges” Special Issue.

By adding three new faculty with scholarship, values, and interests aligned to these topics and to the Department of Marketing's existing faculty, the department hopes to grow a mutually supportive community of scholars with overlapping values and sense of purpose so that the department can better advance impactful research and teaching. Ideally, the cluster hire will help the department cover the full scope of marketing scholarship from macro‐level to micro‐level, and includes the areas of modeling, strategy and consumer behavior. This cluster hire aligns with the University of Oregon Provost's Strategic Initiative on Environment (https://environment.uoregon.edu/ihp‐criteria) and Sport & Wellness (https://sportwellness.uoregon.edu/ihp‐criteria).
Department or Program Summary
The Department of Marketing (https://business.uoregon.edu/departments/marketing) is one of five academic units that make up the Lundquist College of Business (Lundquist), which is one of nine colleges and schools within the University of Oregon (UO). The Lundquist College of Business houses the Warsaw Sport Marketing and the Sustainable Business Centers. Our proposal for a Cluster Hire of three Tenure Track Faculty oriented to Marketing for a Better World holds the potential to forward our already established reputation stemming from these two centers, both of which orient towards personal and societal well-being. We offer undergraduate concentration in sport business, as well as minors in sport business and sustainable business. At the graduate level we have both a sports business and a sustainable business pathway.

Our marketing faculty are engaged scholars who are also recognized for teaching excellence. Members of the department have won teaching excellence awards at the undergraduate, MBA (Masters of Business Administration), and executive MBA level. They have also won numerous national awards for research excellence. In addition, many are involved with the business community. Additionally, the Department of Marketing jointly hosts a Northwest research symposium.

Minimum Requirements
Assistant Professor: PhD in Marketing or related field (for example, psychology, economics, or management), with relevant coursework in marketing from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record or potential for quality teaching and research at the AACSB “Scholarly Academic” (SA) designation. Outstanding candidates who plan to complete a doctoral degree within a year of hiring (ABD) may be considered.

Associate/Full Professor: Ph.D. Marketing or related field (for example, psychology, economics, or management); a record of scholarly accomplishment consistent with rank that includes publications in leading academic journals such as Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Marketing Science; demonstrated teaching excellence. Outstanding candidates currently at the advanced assistant level may be considered at the associate level, and outstanding candidates at the associate level may be considered at the full level.
Preferred Qualifications
All positions:

Commitment to helping foster an inclusive learning environment for the university's diverse set of community members and stakeholders in order to promote and enhance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Commitment to conducting high quality research relevant to “Marketing for a Better World” topics (e.g., marketing to improve sustainability and climate concerns, social justice, economic and social empowerment, health and wellbeing, and prosocial giving, etc.) that leads to publication in premier marketing journals.

Assistant Professor:

A record of scholarly contributions, such as working papers in the review process and/or existing publications in refereed marketing journals, marketing conference presentations, etc.;

Intention and ability to publish high-quality research in the leading refereed marketing journals;

Ability to effectively teach marketing courses at undergraduate and/or graduate levels;

Engagement or the potential to engage in academic service;

Willingness and ability to help mentor PhD students and supervise their research.

Associate/Full Professor:

An outstanding record of scholarly contributions, such as publications in the premier refereed marketing journals;

Engagement or the potential to engage in appropriate research and produce publications in the leading refereed marketing journals and to maintain scholarly currency and AACSB scholarly academic (SA) designation;

An outstanding record of effectively teaching marketing courses at undergraduate and/or graduate levels;

An outstanding record of academic service such as serving on editorial boards, conference leadership, and academic committees; and

Willingness and ability to mentor PhD students and supervise their research.

Research shows that members of underrepresented groups are less likely to apply when they do not feel they meet all preferred qualifications. The Department of Marketing is most interested in finding the best candidate for the job and we encourage applications even if applicants do not meet preferred qualifications.
